Georgian National Film Centre slams Abkhazia international film festival

The state-owned Georgian National Film Centre (GNFC) has condemned the holding of the Sukhum International Film Festival in Abkhazia. They say the festival represents ‘soft power deployed by Russia’s occupation regime’. The festival is being held in Sukhumi (Sukhum) on 2–7 April. Armenia’s Golden Apricot International Film Festival has been criticised amid reports that they ‘censored queer movies’ and other films featuring controversial topics. According to queer rights group PINK Armenia, the festival was set to include, among others, two movies which discuss queer rights, but these were removed from the screening list.
