Azerbaijani police have sentenced an activist arrested in August after spraying the name ‘Stalin’ on a Heydar Aliyev statue to six years in prison on drug charges. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has pardoned 801 people to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, his father and the previous President of Azerbaijan.
