The Daghestani security services have detained the acting Deputy Chair of the Government, Ramazan Aliyev, and former Minister of Health Tanka Ibragimov on fraud charges. Both were close political allies of the former head of Daghestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov. Abdulatipov — who resigned as head of Daghestan unexpectedly in September — personally hired Aliyev, from Saratov region, and Ibragimov, from Moscow. According to Rosbalt, investigators plan to question Abdulatipov in the Aliyev case.

The former head of Daghestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, may be questioned as a witness in two high-profile criminal cases involving Daghestani officials. Defence lawyers in two cases — a multi-million rouble embezzlement scheme and a kidnapping attempt on the former minister of construction — have said he could be a key figure. There have been calls for Abdulatipov to be called in the case of the ‘kidnapping’ of Daghestan’s former minister of construction, Ibragim Kazibekov. Konstantin Muduno

Ramazan Abdulatipov, the head of Daghestan, has resigned from his post. It is not yet known who will replace him. ‘The reason for my resignation is age, after all I’m 71. This sparked a wave of violence in the country largely affecting its civilian population. According to the BBC more than 123,000 Rohingya have fled their homes in th

The head of Daghestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, has pledged that the government will support the restoration of the historic Aukh District, but in a truncated form. Abdulatipov made the announcement during a visit to Daghestan’s Kazbekovsky and Novolaksky districts — territories of the former Aukh District which were repopulated with ethnic Avars and Laks after the deportation of Chechens in 1944. On 25 June, a fight between two young men broke out in Leninaul, in Kazbekovsky District, after

Head of Daghestan admits giving bribes

On 26 April, while speaking at the educational forum ‘New Quality — New Goals’, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov admitted that he had given bribes. ‘If earlier there was a price [a bribe] for this certificate, now Rosobnadzor [the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science] has improved. I came across Rosobnadzor before. I myself gave bribes to Rosobnadzor. And what are you laughing at? I was the rector of the university, if I can’t pass the attestation normally, humanly
